Biography

Dr. Spiro is an assistant professor of neurological surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and director of adult spine services at UPMC. He specializes in minimally invasive surgical treatments for spine disorders, and has developed an innovative technique incorporating real-time CT guidance for complex spine surgery. Dr. Spiro received his medical degree from the University of South Alabama College of Medicine and completed his neurosurgery residency at UPMC. He received his undergraduate degree from Johns Hopkins University with a double major in biomedical engineering, and materials science and engineering. Dr. Spiro is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, and the North American Spine Society, and has published numerous academic articles.
