Biography
Dr. Fernandez-Miranda is assistant professor of Neurological Surgery and director of the Surgical
Neuroanatomy Lab at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He specializes in minimally invasive
endoscopic skull base and pituitary surgery, open cerebrovascular and skull base surgery, and brain
tumor surgery. He is board-certified in Europe, and is a member of the American Association of
Neurological Surgeons. A native of Spain, Dr. Fernandez-Miranda completed a neurological surgery
residency at La Paz University Hospital in Madrid. He then completed several fellowships in minimally
invasive skull base, pituitary and brain surgery at the University of Pittsburgh; cerebrovascular
surgery at the University of Virginia; and a research fellowship in microsurgical neuroanatomy at
the University of Florida. Dr. Fernandez-Miranda’s research interests lie in the study of
surgical neuroanatomy and brain connectivity. His work has been recognized by several
national and international awards.
