Biography
Elizabeth C. Tyler-Kabara, MD, PhD, is assistant professor of neurological surgery and bioengineering
at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. She specializes in pediatric neurosurgery, including
the minimally invasive endoscopic endonasal approach for skull base tumors in children. Dr. Tyler-Kabara
double majored in biomedical and electrical engineering at Duke University, then earned her MD and PhD
from Vanderbilt University. She completed her residency in neurological surgery at the University of
Pittsburgh and a fellowship in pediatric neurosurgery at the Children’s Hospital of Alabama. In addition
to her clinical work, Dr. Tyler-Kabara directs the Neural Enhancement Laboratory of the Department of
Neurological Surgery, where current research projects include stem cell therapies in the treatment of
both adult and pediatric traumatic brain injury.
